What is Smart SaverTM?
The Smart Saver Program promotes the use of high efficiency heating and cooling systems to help lower your energy costs and make your home more comfortable. Locate a Smart Saver Dealer from our current list or ask, your current heating and air conditioning contractor to submit an application for your rebate.

How the Programs Works
• The Smart Saver Program is available to Duke Energy residential customers in Indiana. Other states served by Duke Energy may have similar program offerings.
• When a participating heating dealer or builder installs a new qualifying high efficiency system(s) in your home, the dealer or builder will submit an application for your rebate.

The Indiana Office of Energy Development (OED) is pleased to offer $250,000 in rebates for replacing an existing furnace, boiler, or water heater with an energy efficient unit in existing Indiana residences. For more information about energy-efficient HVAC technology, please visit here. For more information on tankless hot water heaters, please visit here. The rebate program begins January 20, 2009 and will run until program funding is exhausted or April 30, 2009. Please read all program documents carefully before completing your application. Many homeowners will be eligible for additional rebates/tax incentives. Please check with your utility provider, the Energy Star rebate finder, www.energytaxincentives.org, and www.dsireusa.org.
REBATE AMOUNT
Homeowners are eligible to apply for the rebate amount corresponding to the items installed. Please see the table below. Homeowners applying for the rebate are subject to the rules as outlined in this document. The Indiana Office of Energy Development reserves the right to deny the rebate if it is discovered that the project did not comply with program guidelines.

Furnace: A heating unit with a heat input rate of less than 225,000 Btu per hour whose function is the combustion of fossil fuel for space heating with forced hot air. Unit must include burner(s), heat exchanger(s), blower(s) and connections to heating ducts. A heating unit that meets this definition and also provides hot water for domestic or other use may be considered a furnace for purposes of this agreement.
AFUE: The Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) measures the amount of fuel converted to space heat in proportion to the amount of fuel entering the furnace. This is commonly expressed as a percentage. For purposes of this agreement, the efficiency of a furnace shall be measured using AFUE.
Remember, saving energy prevents pollution.
By choosing ENERGY STAR and taking steps to optimize the performance of your heating equipment, you are helping to prevent global warming and promoting cleaner air while enhancing the comfort of your home.
You may also be interested to know:
• Though these products can be more expensive to purchase up front, the cost difference will be paid back over time through lower energy bills.
• When buying new equipment, sizing and installation are as important as product quality.
• You can get better heating and cooling performance at home with ENERGY STAR home sealing (insulation and air sealing) and duct sealing.
• Consider regular maintenance to maintain your heating and cooling system performance.
